So, we would like to save as much for our wedding as possible, but would love to do something fun and romantic for Valentine's Day... maybe a weekend getaway.

We live in uptown, so no hotels or anything because that would seem kind of pointless ?

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for some B&Bs or something kind of out there for a quick weekend getaway that would be around $500 for the whole weekend.... it would basically be our gifts to each other.

We're willing to drive out to anywhere really. So please any suggestions would be great.

You might look at Wildcatter Ranch in Graham. It is about 2 hours west of Dallas. It is a nice ranch turned resort. I haven't stayed in the hotel, but the cabin rooms are really great. No nightlife if that is what you are looking for, but great back porches with rocking chairs to enjoy a quiet evening with a bottle of wine, etc.

There's always Fredricksburg in the hill country. Never been during the winter but there are lots of B&B's.

Fredericksburg rules. Going there in a few weeks. You cannot possibly go wrong with Fredericksburg.

That being said, last year we went to this B&B in new Braunfels for V-Day and my B-Day. We loved it. It is directly on the river with a 2-level deck where you can sit out and watch the animals in the forest across the river. It was cold in Feb, but still very pretty.
Lamb's Rest Inn

It is about a 5 minute drive to Greune if you are bored or hungry. Heck from Lamb's Rest Inn, you can conceivably walk there. It's also a short 10 minute drive to downtown New Braunfels for more restaurants, an awesome German bakery, an art gallery, and a neat little railroad museum. The bakery and hardware store in downtown and the dancehall in Greune claim to be the oldest in the state, too. There are places to stay inside of Greune, too.

Go to Austin. Go to a nice dinner, see some bands play, bar hop and finish the night in the hotel room.

Buuuuut if you want to stay near Dallas, I have no idea. Just do a nice dinner and have some booze and watch movies at home after. Save that $$ for the wedding/honeymoon/house.

Maybe check out Glen Rose or Granbury. Both areas of bed and breakfasts as well as cabins, especially Granbury, it has alot of B&B's. Or if you are looking for something more private and secluded, this might be something....
