Seems like just yesterday watching TV when the Super Bowl was in North Texas and looking at those images of ice-covered hiways from Dallas to Fort Worth where the game was being played - I swear it looked like the Iditarod Trail. And now you've got 30 some consecutive 100 degree plus days, wow has there ever been worse weather Dallas ? Has this incredible heat set a record yet in Dallas ?

we are on track to break records. Looks like we are definitely going to get the longest 100 degree streak in history (currently at 37 and the record is 42- and there is no end in sight)

Our mean temperature this summer (highs and lows averaged) is the highest in history at 89.8 degrees, although 1980 had hotter daytime heat (102.4 compared to around 101 this year). With most of August left, however, its looking safe to say this will either be the 1st or 2nd hottest summer in DFW History!

it is time for rain NOW

Depends on the area- a few people had some spotty showers in June but some have had none since May

That was the last time I saw it rain, and I think it was during that day when we had really bad storms.

The weather channel forecast seems to be on repeat for us since the summer started...LOL.

Since moving here in Nov 2009, all I've heard is that each winter has been "unusually cold" and each summer has been "unusually hot." Haven't studied the data, but I am wondering if it is simply the norm here to have a time in Winter where temps are very low with snow and ice and a much longer time in summer where temps are 100 or more high/80 or more low.

It's getting old to hear each winter and each summer labelled as a freak occurence. Maybe people are just having a tough time accepting that that a stretch of winter here will suck and that every June-August here is miserable?

This record will undoubtedly be exceeded this Saturday, 8/13/11, day 43 for 2011, when the daily temps stay above 100 as has been forecasted.

1998 was very bad. That was the year with the smoky skies due to fires in Mexico. It did not rain from April to September.

2006 was also very bad. No rain from April to September and very high humidity.

The 1950s had three years with just half the normal rainfall and 100+ degree summers.

The 1930s were just as bad.

The Cherokee say there was a three year period in the 1700s where it did not rain at all in Texas.

If you study Texas biology, you will find out that there are numerous species of plants in north and east Texas that usually occur in far West Texas or New Mexico. There is a reason a species is around that like less than 15 inches of rain a year. Texas has been a lot drier than modern times.

Yet you have people believing this summer is a sign that the world is going to end. I wonder if the long winter had any correlation with this summer. How was the winter in 1980?
