The disadvantages would be the light they produce is very sharp, sometimes eye piercing & directional. They also don't take heat too kindly.
So will they need to change the LEDs throughout the summer?

As long as they are heat sinked properly & we don't have anymore of those consistent 100+ degree days it should be fine.

I'm sure this was a "custom" job & the lights were made just to go on that particular building.

Yeah...the light output, color, & life of the LED can degrade exponentially if they overheat.

The cold however they can tolerate down into the negative degrees without any affect on performance. They actually burn "brighter" when they are cold which is just the opposite with neon & fluorescent.

LED's are also super sensitive to higher voltage than they are rated so if you push them beyond their limits they will burn out very quickly.

They've been toying with the idea for a couple of years now.

Thanks.

I'm sitting looking Reunion Tower and from what I tell is still showing the typical white lights. I'll mention something if that changes.

Ok, sometimes they change to a reddish color so it's hard to tell the difference between the regular lights and the reddish lights.

I mean I don't blame you for using the hardware you have, it's just a funny sight to see someone hold up an ipad and take a pic, just looks off
