That was largely because of the poor cycling infrastructure (no bike lanes until very recently for example) and because many drivers are unused to sharing the road with cyclists -- not necessarily because of the number of cyclists. There are actually quite a few cyclists and there's a decent road-cycling and off-trail/mountain biking community here.

We've seen that report. We just kind of shrug it off and ride on. As TrueDat wrote, it is mostly lack of infrastructure, but on the roads we ride, an infrastructure is not really missed. As long as every one doesn't ride or drive like an idiot, no one has a problem.

Here is a pic from our Sunday morning ride.

I think the trick, despite the avenue, is not to go out with the goal to "meet" people (especially if you are talking about meeting someone for dating), but to get involved in something that interests you. Volunteer (LOADS of options there!), Play sports, Do crafts, Join group games, Help with political campaigning, Join a book clubs, etc...and then you will often meet like-minded people by default. You many only connect with one or two people, but those people will know people, who will know people, and so on. For that, Meetup.com can be great. Personally I would probably not join a singles group, wine and dine group, 'night-out' group etc, unless it was a female only group to avoid the 'meat market' issue. And you can usually weed out the networking/marketing ones just by looking at the group description, the members that have joined and their interests, what the activities on the calendar are...etc. But even if not, just because you join and it doesn't work out AS A GROUP, doesn't mean you won't meet a friend or two whom you can continue a relationship with even after moving on from the group. It can take a lot of trial and error as far as groups (on meetup.com or any other avenue), but just focus on YOU and what YOU like, and the people will come
