In a few weeks (so excited!) we're relocating to Cedar Hill. I'm curious about water quality. We can drink tap water where we currently live, but I hear in Dallas that's not the greatest idea... so for the first time, I'm trying to understand how effective filters are.

How do jug filters (like Brita water jugs) compare to tap mounted filters? How effective are filters at all? Should I consider a distiller? Just how bad IS the water?

Thanks!

The water is no worse than the water you get in any other major city.

What exactly did you hear was in the water?

I beg to differ there. Most major cities don't have water that tastes like it's been dredged from the bottom of an algae infested pond for half the year. Brita pitchers will remove most of the muddy taste from the water. The water isn't unhealthy it just tastes sorry Moderator cut: language.

Hmmm, I've lived here for more than 30 years and have never had a problem with drinking tap water. Now in Indianapolis where my sister lives? That's some horrible tasting water.

Grand Prairie water taste like metal, or at least it used to.

Tastes like lake water currently. This happens every year. Restaurant ice cubes taste like it as well.

If you haven't lived here for 30 years (and you're taste buds aren't descensitized), the water does taste funny here (we moved here in November and we drank tap water in Altanta, Seattle, and DC over the past 8 years). I drink filtered water from the fridge (unless I'm making tea or coffee then I use tap). My husband just drinks the tap and says "it's just part of living in Dallas". Try the tap and if you don't like it try a mounted filter (or maybe your fridge will have one). It's really no big deal.

I've lived here all my life (maybe my taste buds are desensitized), and I have no problem with the water. Water in West Texas sure tastes a lot worse!

I thought the taste problem was an issue with Collin county water. I live in Dallas and can taste the difference when I am in Collin county. Not sure who provides water for Cedar Hill.
