I am relocating to work in Farmer's Branch in April. I am pretty sure I will rent first, but thought I would seek some advice from this board. I will be relocating from the DC metro area...I am hoping to keep my daily commute to 20-30 minutes or less. I would like to be close to shopping, restaurants, and parks. If I rent, I will try to find a SFH or a TH to rent, I don't really care for apartment living. Since I am single, I want to be close to an area with lots of activities, events, etc....I am an outgoing person and I am looking forward to meeting new friends in my new home. I have done some research on the web, but can't really narrow it down.

Budget....$2000/mo max

Please, share your advice with me....
Thanks

dallas_bound, open a google map, to the Dallas area. In the search box locate Farmers Branch then get directions to Oak Lawn, or Uptown. You'll get results of about 10 - 15 miles and less than twenty minutes. You may also see alternate routes to make the communte.

Moving from DC metro to Dallas you'll probably find the Oak Lawn and Uptown areas to be suitable. Almost DuPontish but better streets and off street parking. The area is chock full of apartments, condos and townhomes, mostly 10 - 15 years or newer.

Uptown

(75243)Lake highlands (75218)Old Lake Highlands puts you close to a lot and you can probably rent a nice home within that price. The galleria monfort area is also very nice and close to your job.

For townhomes or duplexes, try 75219 (Oak Lawn / Turtle Creek) or possibly 75205 / 75225 (Park Cities - may be $100-200 over $2k for a duplex). Both areas are right on the Tollroad which would keep your commute within 10-20 minutes depending on where exactly in Farmer's Branch your office is located.

Where did you live in DC? If you were actually in the city and want anything walkable- it's Uptown or bust for you. And it fits your budget.

@GreyDay, I was actually in PG County, which is more in the suburbs, but I was close enough to get to the city within 3o min by car..
