I was up in Princeton last week, checking out the WWII POW Camp. (Side note: Don't bother visiting the WWII POW Camp - there's nothing left to see.)

The main part of the town looked like a complete dump, probably even worse than I expected. I'm surprised to hear of hookers in the town, but meth dealers - for sure. Maybe the hookers are in the trailer park - I didn't go over there.

The goofy thing is, they have nice modern schools - the elementary and middle schools looked newly rehabbed, and the high school was clearly very new construction. There are a number of new developments around the town that look perfectly decent, with prices in the $100K-$200K range. Will this growth overtake the remnants of the "old town"?

They are hoping they do overtake them. This town can be really nice if the citizens participated a little more. And not just the "old timers" as some choose to call them, but the "new comers" too. It is very important that citizens get involved in the planning of THEIR city. Get involved in the city boards, help by passing the word around about the charter. Citizens need to get educated. It is the ONLY way to make that town better.

There are now more than 3 years than we live here in Princeton. I still like it very much. I have almost the same neighbors [one moved to a better job in Illinois]. The silence is broken by the barking of the dogs, the chirping of the birds and lately by the engines of the big equipment along Monte Carlo....If the town does not bankrupt, we may get Monte Carlo Blvd driveable!
The city has a terrible past, bad relationship between the administration [Council City Members] and the population. The newcomers are paying for that bad heritage.....and I cannot wait for the next election to try to get rid of some of them. But everywhere you go, it is the same thing. By the way, never anybody ask me to buy anything illegal..and my husband had never been solicited...except for the Scout cookies.
