If homes were generic, then moving would gain you nothing. That moving could solve a problem with layout and/or space tells me that homes in DFW area are diverse enough that if one home no longer suits my needs, I can find another that can.

Also many have mentioned that this will wreck your house. There are plenty of extended stay hotels around the DFW area, you can easily find a basic one for $700 a month. Plan for a 2 month stay.
There aren't many adjacent add-ons in my neighborhood in Richardson, but the ones you do see are usually an extension to enclose a patio and turn it into living space. Not exactly "horrible".
