I'd recommend the Gaylord Texan over Great Wolf Lodge at Christmas. Gaylord has the DreamWorks experience, which has snow-tubing down an indoor hill, gingerbread decorating and the ICE exhibit. Plus, the entire place is decorated to a tee for the holidays. It's pretty spectacular and way more enjoyable for adults than Great Wolf.

The only complaint I have about Gaylord is that everything is an upcharge (parking, resort fee, etc.) so be sure you know exactly what your rate includes when you book.

Or maybe you could split the stay: a couple of nights at Great Wolf (which is PLENTY) and the rest of the time at Gaylord. These two resorts are less than a mile from each other.

Splitting between the two is a good idea. My only hesitation with Gaylord is that it isn't really kid-friendly at all. The restuarants are pretty fancy, not family-oriented at all. You can always go across the road for a day of fun there, too.

Really? We've taken our kids there several times and they love it! (And one of them is the world's pickiest eater.) Granted, we don't go to the $$$ steakhouse with them, but they've eaten in the sports bar and at the Sunday morning buffet with no issues. They also love watching the geyser erupt and riding in the gondola through the atrium.

If you have a car, you can easily hit any number of kid-friendly restaurants located around Grapevine Mills mall. It's about a 5 minute drive from the Gaylord.

I'd suggest also posting to the TripAdvisor.com Dallas and Fort Worth forums (they are two separate forums).

What type of activities do you plan on doing? Do you want to be near tourist attractions? Have you considered all getting a vacation home somewhere? Vrbo.com could be a good place to start.

OP here,

Thank you for all the suggestions.

I'll bring these ideas to other families to discuss.
