My relatives will be visiting us for the Christmas holidays and have asked if I can find a good play that the entire family will enjoy, in or around Plano. I'm looking for something more interesting than Cat in the Hat or the Nutcracker and not the Prestonwood Christmas show. Something like a Mary Poppins or Newsies...I'm not familiar with the theatres around here...Ideas? Thanks!

Stephen has stopped believing in almost everything, and his little brother Andy writes to Santa Claus to ask him to fix up their room by Christmas. Of course, no one believes this is possible, and then Blitzen shows up. A warm and moving story of a family re-discovering the magic of the holiday.

I would agree with biscuit mom...most plays are christmas/holiday oriented at that time of year.
However, we usually go to whatever panto Theatre Britain is putting on around Christmas time. They are not Christmas-themed, but are like a modified version of a children's fairy tale, but with a lot of adult humor thrown in. Last year it was Mother Goose, this year it's The Three Little Pigs. If you've never been to a panto before...they are hilarious! Kind of like an interactive play...the audience participates by boo-ing the villain, cheering the hero, participating in the songs, etc. The theatre they perform at is Cox Playhouse Building in downtown Plano...very small and intimate. Not a bad seat in the house...you feel like you are right in the action. Highly recommend if you are looking for something outside of the norm that will appeal to all ages.
