Can anyone tell me if the (big) State Farm office on Preston Rd. in Dallas is considered downtown? They say the building is about as big as an entire block. I know that was a long question but that what I need to know. I am concidering relocating to Dallas and need to know where the building is located.
Thanks!!

No, Far North Dallas area if you are talking about the one just north of Campbell. It's big, but I think just one story. 15 miles north of downtown.

Have you looked at this on a map? Dallas has this little narrow section that shoots up straight north, above the 635 loop and this State Farm is in that area. So, Carrollton is more west of there, maybe a bit northwest, but mostly west. Plano is just north of there. Far North Dallas is nice, too. Do you need schools? What is your budget?

Ok so Far North Dallas. Call me slow but... when I look for Far North Dallas on the map will i be looking for an area or and city called Far North Dallas? We won't need grade schools just yet but we'll be looking for childcare for our 2 year old. We are looking at no more than $150,000 3-4 bdr, 2 car gr. is a must.

Far North Dallas is the city of Dallas from 635/LBJ and to the north - that section of Dallas that shoots up that I was telling you about. It has Addison and Carrollton to the west, Plano to the north and Richardson to the east. I don't think you will see it listed on maps as Far North Dallas, you just have to look at the city limits north of 635 loop, but on the news or in the newspaper they will refer to the area as Far North Dallas.

Is your State Farm place zip code 75287 (Collin COunty)? Or 75248 (Dallas County)?

I am not sure how far $150k will take you, but if you look at Carrollton, Plano, Richardson, Far North Dallas, I bet you can find something and not have a killer commute, although it will be an older house. If you wanted something newer you might have to go further out - Frisco, Little Elm, The Colony, McKinney, but you will have a much longer commute.

the zip is 75252. I think as long as the commute is ok then we can go with the older home.

Oh, ok, I see that zip code. That's like Preston and Frankford. I would just do real estate searches for that price range in those areas and see what you get. The challenge will be your budget is a bit low for that area, but you should be able to find something. I would probably look at Plano first.
