So just an update, I think I will be getting a sapphire ring instead. The intended made it clear that she likes a deep blue sapphire ring. I've been looking and reading online and Im deciding on the treated vs untreated or lab vs non-lab. Does any one have any experience with this particular gemstone? The big chain stores have a lot of affordable choices, but these are the 'lab created' kind. Blue nile has a couple I like, and it is heated. The only site I have found is natural sapphire company which appears to pride itself on only untreated stones. Is it important to get a natural sapphire anyways?

any body have thoughts or opinion on their sapphire experience? whether it's vendors, or quality

Deep blue natural stones are quite pricey. Princess Dianna and now Kate made them very popular as engagement rings. Your best bet for color/price is probably heated but be sure she isn't set on a natural stone.

When my husband was looking to get my engagement ring, I was actually very specific. I told him that I wanted a yellow sapphire ring with a double halo of diamonds. He worked with a custom designer on Etsy. She goes by LaurieSarahDesigns. She actually lets you pick the stone and the type of mount. Of course, you can make something completely custom if you'd like and she will work with your budget. Here are a couple blue sapphire rings she has:

Good luck!
