I got a speeding ticket for going over the speed limit and decided to take the defensive driving course in lieu of paying the ticket.

By some stroke of luck, I took the insurance reduction course instead of the one required for ticket dismissal and am now required to appear in court to explain why.

Has anyone had this happen? What will usually happen? Should I just pay the remainder of the fine and not go to court?

Go to court, tell them it was an honest mistake and offer to take the correct course. If you just pay the remainder of the fine without taking the correct course, the ticket will show up on your driving record and your insurance company will be able to charge you for it.

I didn't know there were two different courses. I've taken defensive driving a lot but not recently. I hire an attorney which works pretty weel. Why save you money but keeps it off your record .
