If it hurts your feelings then I'm sorry. I'll not mention Allen in this thread.

Thanks, although that article has no new news since this budget issue began last month. Will be interested to see results of the board

I saw that on the news yesterday. Unfortunate all around, but I feel worst for the kids who have to pay to participate in sports but whose parents might not have the $$ to spare.

Frisco has absolutely zero reason to be in this situation. They have plenty of businesses to support the schools. But they want to attract more businesses, so they openly advertise that they have very low business taxes not even close to supporting school operations.

Property tax rates are an unreliable way to finance schools UNLESS the vast vast majority of the voting public has kids in teh school system. But Frisco has a bunch of old farts who vote and have no intention of increasing their taxes to pay for the yuppies snotty school kids.
I know that in HEB (Bedford in particular) there was a certain faction lead by senior residents who were very vocal and active in opposing ANY tax increases and they did lot of damage to the perception of the town as a viable entity and to the programs/budgets

I would also remind people that it is possible to "overtax" yourselves to support your local schools because the state funding plan allows the state to take away certain amount of tax receipts every year--and those funds go either to the Regional center the district is in or to the state's education coffers...
Most districts choose to have their overflow sent to the region because they feel they have better control and get more use of it there...

There are costs associated with physical plants and other budget items like bussing that having more and smaller schools might make more of a drain than larger schools would...
Not that familiar with Frisco itself--
But I wonder about the experience of the people on the school board with running any type of large enterprise
A school district is a very complicated business and people who think their kids deserve the "best" football stadium and other visible aspects might not be the best judges of how to design a district that functions efficiently and effectively...
Some Superintendents are also more into giving themselves more than they put into their schools...

Here you go ... This is a list of base salary and full FTE for superintendents of school districts in state of Texas. Most districts are paying reasonable amount according to their size and tax base. Richardson ISD pays a very generous FTE for a smaller district. Do check out how generously single charter schools are paying. If charter school trend took off, they'll drain our public school system.
