Austin is not "a lot more" expensive than Dallas. Austin might cost a little more in housing, but not by much. A 680 square feet one bedroom middle class apartment in Austin might rent for 900$ a month. The same apartment in Dallas might rent from 800$ to 850$ a month.

Everything else costs about the same. Food, gas, utilities, insurance, etc, is all about the same.

Much less traffic, easy access to the Atlantic Ocean, access to the forest and mountains. Not in "fly over" country. Weather is not hot 8 months out of the year (4 seasons in Ft Mill, pleasant coastal weather in Charleston). Not overpopulated with transplants (Dallas), or Brogrammers from UT (Austin). Lower Property taxes and COL, all the problems and politics that come from a border state, I can go on and on. I keep seeing Texas plates in the Carolinas but not the other way around. If OP must live in Texas, I prefer Corpus Christi and Houston over Dallas and Austin.

Dallas is a beast for insurance companies, and is generally less expensive than Austin so given the little information provided DFW is a better fit.

Yeah, that makes sense. I hadn't thought about the weather or the traffic. With nearly 30 million people in the state, and about 20 million of them living in the Interstates 10, 35, and 45 triangle/corridor, also known as the Texaplex, heavy traffic is going to be a fact of life.

Outside of the mountainous region of South Carolina is the weather really all that much different from Dallas? Dallas has quite a few days over 100 but when the temperature gets that hot, the humidity is low. SC in the summer, say around Colombia, if its 92, the humidity will make it feel like its close to 100. I don't think Colombia is going to feel all that much more comfortable than a 100 degree day in Dallas.

Whenever I do go out of state, I see Texas plates everywhere I go. Here in Austin, I think I've seen plates from every state in the union, including Alaska, Hawaii, North Dakota, Vermont, and Maine.

Well in late February in Austin you gets humid days in the 90s again. The latitude of SC is higher, so it's more tolerable outdoors, and its much cooler in the mornings and evenings than Texas.

I know from past posts you like to make things up....want to guess over the last 10 years how many Feb. days have broken 90 in Austin? You won't like the answer.

ETA - to save you the time the answer is 3 days. There were far more Feb. Austin days with highs in the 30s over the last 10 years.

Unless you are going to realize a significant increase in pay, both cities cost of living would be much higher. Is there another reason you're considering the move?

Dallas is nothing like Atlanta -- thank God!

But I agree that we need a lot more info before we can give the OP any advice. I grew up in SC myself, by the way.

SC is far more uncomfortable in the summer because of the humidity. 100 in Dallas is like 87 in SC.

It's going to vary from person to person. I lived in Greenville, SC for 9 years. I worked at Fluor, owned a house in great proximity to downtown, and kind of checked all the boxes for having a good experience there.

However, I actively chose to make the move to Dallas 2.5 years ago and Dallas just offers me more of everything (with the exception of quick accessibility to forested mountains/beach). Greenville is a really great small city - but it's still a small city and it shows at times. I enjoyed my time in Greenville, but Dallas has been much better for me overall.
