Yes, and more intense colors too--probably a result of all the rain.

fall colors are so far disappointing in most places.. even in the arboretum many maples are dropping leaves, or have leaf burn before they even turn red. Probably the excess of rain and lack of sunny days all these weeks.

Found this on the DMN website

Mother Nature may treat Dallas-Fort Worth to 'breathtaking' fall foliage

Not only are we ahead of schedule — the early arrival could be a sign of more "breathtaking" color to come, Forehand said. But it likely won't be a fall full of perfect foliage, he warns, and all the recent rain is to blame.

I guess you’re right

The record rainfall “may actually work to mute fall colors a little bit,” said Daniel Cunningham, a horticulturist and project manager with Texas A&M AgriLife Research.

Well, I'm no expert; I had just always read that adequate rain helps produce more color.

According to this:

"Summer drought conditions stress trees. They may thus lose their leaves prematurely or start color production prematurely. The result is a reduction of color during the peak of the season. Adequate summer rains promote good tree health, leaf retention and, therefore, color production during the autumn."

But maybe timing is everything:

"The right weather during the autumn can promote more intense color production. The reds (anthocyanins), which require sunlight for production, are enhanced by cold and sunny days. Rainy and windy weather during the autumn can knock leaves down prematurely thereby shortening the color display at its peak."

Whether this is *optimal* color or not, I love seeing the beautiful golds and greens around my part of town. Also, if you look at my previous post, I was just comparing the colors to last year, and IMO, the colors are more vivid than last year. YMMV.

I agree, the fall colors do seem much more pronounced this year than last year (between Tyler and Dallas here).

A series of cold fronts will pass though North Texas this week. The first cold front came through today. By next week, the high temps could be in the 40s with lows in the 30s.

Most of the "Peak" color of the trees has already happened and it was MUCH more noticeable than the past few years. The only problem was that the RED colors were lacking it's just the geography. Probably is really nice past tyler down toward longview. But the Reds came and went really quickly.

Winter should be wetter and colder than normal. And hopefully a little taste of snow As the last few years have been horrid for snow lovers.

Cold front #2 is coming tonight!

A Freeze Watch has been issued Friday Night into Saturday Morning. Low temps between 29 to 32 degrees are forecasted in the watch area. Dallas, Tarrant, Rockwall Counties and areas south are not included in the watch. Locations out of the watch area will have low temps in the mid 30s.

Cold Front #3 could bring below freezing low temps to The Metroplex.
