It might, but big woo. We're talking about 500 dollar cars here.

Dallas Police have a lot bigger fish to fry than someone driving around without a license. Welcome to the big city.

I'm just kind of shocked by it because when I lived in Atlanta metro, certain counties were very avid and harsh on minorities and driving without insurance and / or licenses. Several counties / neighborhoods were profiled (areas in Gwinnett near Cruse Rd & Pleasant Hill Rd, that and Beaver Ruin Rd)... The areas I mentioned there plus Stone Mountain and Clayton county often setup checkpoints haulting up traffic (usually at night but it wasnt unheard of during the day hours either) to check that sort of stuff. I just kind of thought it would be even tougher in Texas.

I kind of knew that it wasnt really enforced here in Austin where I live now but I just thought that was an Austin thing.

Dallas has always been pro illegal immigrants. It's essentially a sanctuary city. More than half of the women who gave birth at Parkland are illegal immigrants.

I've never really knew this. Are the suburbs and FortWorth also like this? I've always thought it was only Austin that was like that.

According to the Dallas Morning News, in 2005 Parkland Memorial staff delivered 15,590 babies, an average of more than 42 infants per day. In a pair of June 2006 articles, the Morning News reported that a recent patient survey indicated 70% of the women who gave birth at Parkland in the first three months of 2006 were illegal immigrants (while a similar New York Times article pegged the yearly tally for 2005 as “at least 56%”). The hospital spent $70.7 million delivering babies born there in 2004, with taxpayers covering about 40% of the costs ($31.3 million) directly, and federal and state funds (primarily Medicaid) making up the remainder. Because of large payments from the Medicaid system, Parkland still ended 2004 with a $7.9 million surplus in obstetrics.

Well, Parkland is a county hospital. They aren't allowed to turn anyone away (though you may wait three days to be seen).

No one with money or insurance goes to Parkland except in cases of severe trauma or burns. Any expecting mother that can possibly do so will avoid Parkland at all costs. You have to look at all the hospitals, for your statistics to have any meaning.

Not all suburbs, but some are better than others. (My suburb would ticket someone for driving without insurance, and the PD was also happy to come to the accident scene and give me a police report for a hit and run accident.) Fort Worth is a big city, but at least their PD isn’t severely understaffed like Dallas, and the crime rate isn’t as high.
