Much more wealthy overall than HP.
Highland Park vs some independent subdivision in Ft Worth isn't really a fair comparison. Highland Park is actually a real city, among the top if not the densest city in Texas at over 5000 people per sq mile and total population of 10,000, and it is adjacent to a university so the population is age and income varied, even if the wealthy subset dominates.

Not everyone is on social security.

DFW was ok not more not less.

My post obviously only applies to people who are considering TX as a retirement state, some of whom posted in this thread.

There is a city of about 600 in Ft Worth you never hear about called Westover Hills. Home of Texas Oil and Cattle Barrons from West TX and Mega Money. Much more wealthy overall than HP. Names you seldom hear about in TX like Bass, Walmart, Rainwater.
Highland Park is always called the wealthiest city in Texas and 7th wealthiest in America.

Nope, not regretting it at all. It's been a bit colder in the winter than I expected, but I'm still not shoveling anything off my driveway or chipping anything off my windshield.

We moved from upstate NY (Albany area) 12 years ago, no regrets at all, love it here. But I do miss northeast fall season sometimes.

My personal take is property taxes are a re-occurring expense I have no control over, unless I qualify for some sort of exemption (which is often rare and may be difficult to qualify) or if I move to a state with lower COL. I would prefer to keep said expense as low as possible, though I would admit there is no perfect place.

Colorado and Arizona are pretty reasonable. The problem with Nevada and Arizona -- what about water?
