Mine increased 13% collin. Second property tax bill of a new construction.
Is there point to fight this year? I fought last year, and brought down to my purchase price.
I researched my street. some of them up by 16%, some of them only by 6%.

I envision a lot of wasted money and time on fighting appraisals this year as it’s hard to believe everywhere didn’t increase at least 10% in value from 2020. So thetax appraisal fighting companies must be in panic most as they won’t be able to save non-HS owners anything on their payment this year.
Fight it. Every year. If your home needs repairs, submit estimates. The way the tax protest companies work - well, the good ones - is you pay a % of the taxes they save you as the fee. Usually around 40% of the savings. So it costs nothing unless they get you a reduced tax value.

My house did not go up that much in value. It was just assessed drastically below market value last year. This one would be worth a protest if not for the exemption.
1. Yes we’ve all been trying to tell you that your home IS probably worth 30% more than last year’s value due to MLS activity in your part of McKinney.

2. Heck yes, fight it!! You keep saying your home is old and not in perfect condition so get your estimates put together of all the repairs you need (painting, siding, new concrete for cracked driveways, new roof from hail damage, etc….whatever you can find!!) and protest. Put your money where you mouth is & go fight!!

3. Yes your taxes are capped at 10% a year but that just means in a few more years of max 10% raises, you could be paying 30%+++ more than you are today in taxes and who wants to do that?

Still worth it - perhaps a tax protest company can make a case of “unequal value” compare to your neighbors? Always worth a try to protest.

Up 25% in Preston Hollow. Hoping our guy can make a good case for unequal value this year based on some of the values I saw on our block.

The worst one I’ve seen so far is a family member in Kessler Park with a +60% valuation to LY. New modern construction built about 10 years ago. Insane to go up that much in a year!

There is a good thread on Reddit Dallas now from someone who used to work at DCAD. Ask me anything format.

Our taxable value went up ~20% but significantly behind what I could sell the house/lot for. Won't take the time to protest myself but will likely work through a tax protest company.

9.6% in Dallas County. I'm shopping around for a tax protest company and trying to get comps pulled.
