yes from what I understand it's supposed to be a "mini" universal studios, not the real thing. It's going to be interesting to see if that is a truly viable model. 'm sure the prices are going to be stupid high, mini version or not. And yet if the perception is that this is not the real thing, are people really going to shell out big bucks to fly/travel from outside the metroplex to go there instead of just going to Florida/LA? It will probably do well with locals who live near by for a day but I wonder if someone is going to travel down from Missouri/Arkansas for that if they have the resources to just go to Florida instead.

Well if the “mini version” thing is true, then I would suppose the project is targeted towards metroplex residents and other Texans and nearby states.

Not to mention if it will further impact traffic in the areas that I frequent.

Guess it will be YEARS before this even comes to fruition, and no telling where I'll be by that point haha so I guess I'll worry about it when it becomes real.

I get the whole potential argument that more commercial growth will help offset my increasing property taxes over the long term but I really hold my breath to expect that to actually be the case.
I'm a Frisco resident too and have similar concerns. Traffic is already bad. It's supposed to be built in 4 years and I didn't see any plans to alleviate traffic concerns. I'm skeptical on reducing property taxes too.

I'm assuming most of the workers will not be making crazy high wages, which leads to the question of where they will live. A lot of people in Frisco balk at the thought of affordable house (AKA more apartments). A lot of the apartments we have now aren't all that affordable.

It matters if you are a family with kids traveling to DFW for theme parks. Did you know Arlington is 41 miles from Frisco? Wouldn't people want to visit Six Flags and Universal? Especially if it's a mini version. Maybe Frisco wants this just for their community?

Well, other than crowding and traffic, its a pretty good addition. Ii would rather have it in Arlington and visit it occasionally.

Does it mean a mini-Disney will be in North Texas too in the near future?

Checked the Dallas business journal article and pretty much reiterated the “mini Universal” thing you said. I don’t have the quote with me, I’ll edit it later. But I’m seeing a 300 hotel room, 97 acre project.

I wonder why they’re doing a project of this scale? It could be the new reality for theme parks as it seems mega projects are less likely these days.

It is a mini version, but they specified that it will have room for expansion. My guess is that they will be planning to expand it as soon as they finish it because it will be a hit in the area. As far as going to Florida vs Texas, it depends. If it’s within an 8-10 hour drive in distance, I can see those people going to the Frisco location. It will also be a nice place to go for people coming to town for other reasons.
