There are two Catholic Schools in the Garland & Richardson area....

Good Shepherd Catholic School in Garland

and

St Joseph Catholic School in Richardson (on the border next to Garland)

Does anyone know anything about these two schools?

Pros and Cons of each?

Where would you send your kid?

Thanks!!

I don't believe in religious indoctrination so I wouldn't send mine to either but my good friends sent their kids to both and they liked environment and academics of Good Shepherd better.

I don’t know anything about either of those two schools, but I do know that St Patrick has an excellent Catholic PK-8th grade school that is just south of 635 & Audelia/Plano Road area. Don’t know if crossing 635 is too far but it is considered one of the best Catholic schools.

I think it depends on what you’re looking for in the school. Both use the diocesan curriculum.

Good Shepherd is slightly smaller and is predominantly Hispanic with not much other diversity.

St. Joseph is more Asian / White. I believe it’d be more realistic to continue to Lynch or JP2 from St Joseph if that’s important. I’ve been to a multi-week class at St. Joseph before, and it seemed to be a close-knit family community.

To be honest, the schools on the other side of Richardson (St. Paul) and St. Mark the Evangelist (just over the border in South Central Plano), have better academic reputations and a few students that end up at Jesuit.
