I know of a few girls who were declined admission one year but accepted later. Hope that helps.

Is Hockaday sending decisions out at 4 PM or earlier today?

Definitely contact admissions and see if you can get some additional information on the decline. While a flat-out rejection can mean the kid is not a good fit for the school, it doesn't always mean that. Especially at the most competitive schools, admissions committees tend to strategically design their waitlist numbers in accordance with their typical yields - meaning that they don't always waitlist every child who met criteria. Put another way, while every kid who is waitlisted meets criteria for the school, not every kid who meets criteria or could be successful at the school is necessarily waitlisted. I personally know of 3 siblings at our school who applied multiple times and were declined once or more before they were eventually accepted. This is especially true at non-expansion years, but I've also seen it happen in expansion years like 5th grade. All of these parents received specific feedback on their kids and what could strengthen their application and increase their chances (and none of the 3 were told "don't bother reapplying" - I know of other parents who did get that message.) More personalized feedback on your kid and her application will go a long way in determining whether applying again is in your best interest.

Does anyone know how many were accepted to 1st grade? Our daughter was waitlisted for the second year in a row.

Does anyone know anything about 5th grade admissions? Wondering if anyone will be able to come off the waitlist.

The fifth grade waitlist is more likely to move than the PreK waitlist, but I would assume just a few spots.
