I've driven through main Craig Ranch numerous times and have not seen one house that I did not like. Its so nice to see a house that isn't the standard Texas style cookie cutter brick-face home. As far as DRH, I agree to staying away from, besides, DRH isn't building houses in CR, only a few townhouses. I also looked at the Monterey (meritage) homes as well as the Buescher homes and seem to like the Buescher product better.

Do a little back ground soul searching into Buescher before you commit there...Those guys have no buisness building in that community at all...
Also look into Meritage a little closer, see what they normally build...

I am not trying to shoot down CR Main, but I still can't beleive David Craig allowed those builders to represent in that community, given there past records in others, as well as the product they normally build...Just make sure you do your homework, as that is a huge investment....

By the way you may want to look into there ratios of investors to homeowners if you are looking to buy for an investment or god forbid live there.
Can you please tell me the reason why this prime spot townhome community has become so undesirable? One possible reason I know is that last year there was a murder in one of the townhomes. But that can not be the only reason for everyone selling there house and leaving.

Default I just wanted to give you guys an update....

...because I see this thread is still alive. My wife and I pulled out of our deal with DRhorton(lost about $1500) because we thought there work/customer service was a little shady at best. We liked the community concept but our experince with the sales rep/const.builder was very bad, not to leave out the fact that they nickle and dimed us to death at the design studio didn't sit to well with us either. I think if we had a better realestate agent maybe he/she could have dealt with a lot of the issuse we were having(after all we're living in san diego)but instead we went with a clown who basically left us hanging after we signed on the dotted line. Thank god we made that decision(to opt'out) because we both receive better job offers in the city of houston and now we have the second chance at purchasing our dream home.

We will be moving to the city of katy(cinco ranch) in the beginning of aug. and we plan on taking a better approach at chosing a new home bulider(remember you get what you pay for) like david weekly,perry,highland,ect...

The one thing we've learned from our experience is RENT! frist before buying in a new city and INTERVIEW a few agents before you choose one. That's the only way to go. hopefully we'll be able to wait out the summer rush and find some better deals in the fall/winter.

I am looking to buy at The Reserve at Westridge, some comments are expected, you build as many homes as DR Horton there are going to be some issues. They are giving us a killer deal, which seems a bit weird, but we are guessing it could be because it may be the last model available on a larger lot, they are including $5k in closing, paid title seperate from closing, many upgrades and added appliances, and dropped the price quite a bit, we are also asking if they can do a few other things (not for free, but see if they can include it into the price).Being my first home it is easy to get pulled in, I just want to be sure I am making the right choice. Short notice, but I will be looking at the house again for the second time today.Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

Crap I jump the gun on that....We were living in The Lakes of Cinco while our home was being built, but ended up pulling out the home in Cinco for another one in Katy

FYI; always choose a third party inspector when buying a home

DRH is your typical production builder. They, like all the others, provide so~so housing for first time home buyers. Being a large corporate company, they're more interested in the profit line than building a quality product. A member of my family also bought a home from DRH in Craig Ranch on a lot of land not much larger than the footprint of their home. They would never do it again. They had to have lawyers send letters to the company to get promised service completed. My family members paid extra for a radiant barrier roof and didn't get it. The two happiest days of a home owner in a DRH home; they day they buy it and the day they sell it. DRH is just a cut above Grand. And yes sirree! Always hired a third party inspector when building a home. And when buying a home, don't use the inspector your realtor wants you to use. I wound up having to spend over $5,000 for a new AC because the inspector blew it, and my lousy realtor defended the inspector. Come to find out she was on the payroll. I'll cease my rant now. I'm getting upset. Tranquility now!

As the others have stated make sure you have an independent third party Inspector for the home. If you have questions about that please don't hesitate to contact me.

One thing you do want to make sure is what your warranty is, what it covers, who is backing the warranty (builder or third party), and if it is a third party I would speak to them about any exclusions being as how it is/was a model home.

I own a home in Hemingway/DRH home, the wood work is all off and it was explained to me that is just how it is, my prior home was built by Drees and it was built very well. One of my walls curves, not because of design, poor craftsmanship. Quality is very poor with DRH in Hemingway. During my annual survey, I was given a lot of excuses for the poor workmanship.
