I use to make the reverse of that commute in the late 1980s, lived in Denton and worked across the street from SMU. It took 60-70 minutes in the morning rush, Denton to Dallas. In the afternoon I needed to leave by 4:00 or wait until 6:00pm to leave so it would only take an hour. If I left for Denton between 4-6pm, it was 2 hours.

I used 35/635/75 back then. Nowadays there may be more options since the Dallas North Tollway goes all the way to Hwy 380 and now that the George Bush tollway exists.

I have to tell you I think of those 2 years as my "commuting years" as my life was dominated by this commute. I discovered AM Talk Radio during that time as I grew to hate listening to music.

if you are student at UNT or TWU there is bus service from Dallas that you have access to and I believe it is free when you show your student ID card...
might limit your freedom of movement to the bus schedule but would also give you time to listen to music/study w/o having to hassle the traffic
