I was thinking of taking a two night trip in the middle of a DFW visit. Any advice on where to go? Ive been to Austin and San Antonio, so I would prefer to see something different. I was thinking Lubbock, Shreveport or Oklahoma City.

Shreveport has an interesting vibe. It's Deep South meets Cajun Country meets Texas. There's Louisiana Boardwalk in Bossier City and several casinos.

You could drive to New Orleans in under 10 hours, to Houston & Galveston in about 5 hours .....or if you schedule it right, take a cheap 1-hour Southwest Flight
You could drive to Shreveport in about 3-4 hours and then spend another 5 hours there and come back

Oklahoma Cit is just a 3-hour drive, and there are some neat things to see there. I was there every week for 6 months with my job, and I quickly figured out some good things to do!

If you like western art, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is AMAZING! National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum

Remington Park is their horse racing track, and it also has a casino. http://www.remingtonpark.com/home.aspx

And, of course, the Oklahoma City Memorial is really moving. Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum – Official Website

To be honest, as a Lubbock native, Lubbock is a great place to live, but not the most interesting place to visit. There are the Buddy Holly museum (takes up maybe a couple of hours. Lots of tourists, particularly Brits, make it as a quick stop on the way to somewhere else) and the Ranching Heritage Center (preserved 19th century ranch homes). In early September, the International Cowboy Symposium is interesting.
For natural beauty, Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo is great, and the Ozarks and Hot Springs in Arkansas are nice.

-Arkansas - Ozarks, NWAR. Truly beautiful country and nice weekend getaway.

Lubbock would be the last place I would want to spend two days of vacation if I were new to Texas and had a limited timeline and limited exposure...
I know there are people who love it--and there are some reasons to go there (like Buddy Holly's grave) but Texas has SO MUCH to offer that is closer...
Fredericksburg, Houston, Davis Mountains, even El Paso (beautiful scenery and I think away from the border would be safe)
I think would be better than Lubbock
Shreveport is OK--you could go through Jefferson and see Caddo Lake
OKC and Tulsa are nice--
Arkansas has DeGray State Park which is pretty close and Queen Wilhimina state park
Things to do in Arkansas - Arkansas Tourist Attractions

get a SWA flight to NO--don't drive--wastes too much time--
