Hey Guys, I am looking for a nice place to go canoeing or rafting in Ohio. I live in Dayton and would like to keep it within a couple hours drive. I've done some research and I haven't find too much so I was hoping you guys would have some personal suggestions--it would be nice if there were some class II or III rapids!! It's been a pretty wet spring/early summer so I am thinking the water should be flowing pretty good. Thanks!

You won't find rapids in Ohio. You need to go to West Virginia or the Youghagheney (spelling?) in SW Pennsylvania.

I know they do kayaking on the Great Miami River. Check out Welcome to Whitewater Warehouse - Home

Shocking, you're everywhere in this forum.

OP, don't listen to the troll. Dayton has very good areas for rafting. When I was downtown last summer there were areas right along the river that were set up specifically for rafters. The city itself had some really nice areas for rafting, but I am sure farther out it is even better.

The Little Miami is famous for canoeing. There is a rental place on 68 just before you get to Waynesville. There are also a couple in Morrow, or Lebanon. Have fun!! My grandsons' scout troop went last weekend, and had a blast.

Should have posted this in the Ohio forum.

I'm a seasoned canoeist and let me tell you: Ohio sucks for canoeing.
Plenty of day trip type things but for serious canoe trips you need to leave the state.

If you are looking for Class II or III rapids in Ohio, you would have to do it after a torrential downpour of a few days. Ohio, being a flatter state, doesn't have the elevation to get much fast water. You will have to travel to Kentucky or West Virginia to get significant white water (WV, especially, has great rafting - see the Upper Gully).

Still, there are plenty of beautiful calm rides in the state. As livid said, the Little Miami is absolutely lovely in summer. Calm, but beautiful (and a few rope swings here and there to have fun with).

Toward the foothills in Southeast Ohio there are some nice stretches of the Hocking River (near Logan) and it the Hocking Hills region bears visiting just for itself.

Also, in the Northeast there are nice calm waters on the Mohican River.

If you like bigger adventures, Lake Erie is also an option.

I'm a novice at this, but there is canoeing on the Mad River that was a great deal of fun for me. You can find them located in Enon, Ohio. I think it's about an 8 mile journey. Springfield offers kayaking on Buck Creek through downtown.

Here's a link you may find helpful. I remembered a rafting-canoe area from when I was a kid and went looking for the info. Looks like they may still be in business (and with expanded adventures too). Something to ponder over the winter and get ready for next spring or summer. Have fun!!!!
