I dread to see this thread here, so perhaps I shouldn't contribute to it. Frankly I don't want to read a bunch of naysayers. I strongly support Obama, was thrilled that he was elected, and generally support his legislative programme.

Obama, of course, won the state. Dems control state government at this point, though my perception is that the state republican party is still rather strong, esp in Kent and Sussex. The one rep to the US House of Reps is a moderate republican (and former gov.). Both senators, of course, are dems. The republican party has been stronger in the past than at present, but that's true now for much of the US.

From what I know lower Delaware is more Republican, even with
that, I think you could say Delaware's a Democratic state.

Could be virgode. In the 60's.....Lewes was segrated. Friends of ours came to Lewes in the 60's for a teaching job. They saw the restaurants has areas for blacks and whites to sit. That did it for them......They went with their other option.
De has been a blue a state the past 2 elections.

This is interesting and I am wonder the same about Lower DE.

Delaware has always been a moderate state, and electorate, generally, votes for the individual rather than the party ..that is why Biden-Carper (D) for senate but Castle (R) for congress and in the past, Castle-DuPont (R) for two-term governerships each.

New Castle Co. is more urban, better educated and tends to be democrat leaning and Sussex-Kent are more rural and sort of a red state - but out-of-staters are moving in the lower two counties that may change or reinforce the status there.

As to POTUS, BO is doing the best he can - What I like is he has the fortitude to take everything in stride - coolly and fairly effectively - more important is that he does mid-course correction when facts on the ground show that it is needed rather than persist with the " I am the decider" and the "facts be damned" dogma we experienced before.

Someone observed that outside the immediate coastal area, lower DE - Sussex, really - is very conservative as one travels west. The liberal, Democratic centre would be Rehoboth Beach, I would think. Lewes and Milton are likely to be pretty liberal/Democratic today, from evidence I've seen. But I suspect when you get out to places 15 miles inland, you are going to be looking at a much more conservative electorate in Sussex and also in some of those small towns in inland Kent. ISTM that the party affiliation of the General Assembly is definitely skewed in the direction of Dems from New Castle Co. and Republicans from Sussex. I'm less certain about the party affiliation of the Kent delegation.
