Hi,

Wife and I are driving to DC May 12th. We are spending Wed and Thurs in RB then headed to DC Friday.

AAA triptik has us taking the ferry in Cape May. I'm not against the ferry and actually like the novelty of it.

Is it worth the extra time or should I stay on the road?

Thank you.

I enjoyed the ferry from Lewes to Cape May and back to Lewes for a day trip last summer as a walk on passanger. However, be aware that you need to make a reservation for a car ahead of time because it only holds about 100 cars. Today they cancelled some trips due to high winds. Who knows what the weather will be like on a particular day.

Instead of taking the ferry on the way down to DC, you may want to consider taking it on the way home. That way you don't have to backtrack if the weather becomes an issue and the ferry is not available.

If you enjoy novelty/adventure, it is worth it. As Mary said, make a reservation and check the weather before leaving Boston. Not taking the ferry is quicker however; about 8 hours with minimal NYC hassles and rest stops.

On a calm clear day the ferry is a nice ride . If the water is rough it is NO fun. If it were me I would come over the Delaware Momorial Bridge and get off at 13S.Follow that into Rt 1.

Been watching the weather closely. It's been windy up there too. I may just stay/get on 295 to 13 South to Rt 1.

Thank you everyone.
