We're taking Amtrak up to Glenwood Springs over Labor Day weekend, but I had forgotten that Union Station is closed, and that Amtrak is temporarily housed at 21st & Wewatta. We were going to walk from the bus station at 17th & Market over to Amtrak, but the walk to 21st & Wewatta is a bit far with my 5 year old in tow.

Are there taxis outside the 17th & Market bus station at 7 am on Saturdays? If not, is it possible to call one? An alternative would be parking near Amtrak, but I don't see any parking around the temporary location.

Thanks for the assistance.

In my experience taxis usually do not congregate around market street station at anytime of the day. If you must you can certainly call 303-777-7777 or 303-333-3333 and they will likely be there quickly as cabbies generally just hang around the hotels downtown at that time of day.

Their is no long term parking at the temporary Amtrak station. You might get lucky and find street parking in that area (not sure if they have time limits on their free parking now I know that area used to be one of the few near downtown that did not).

However, I am assuming since you are going to Market St station and live in Broomfield you are taking the BV into town. Is the 17th and Chestnut stop too far of a walk as well? Or does the BV not stop at 17th and Chestnut at the time you are looking at?

You might take the free mall ride to the end at union station and then walk the rest of the way to 21st & Wewatta from there

Thanks. I didn't realize that the BV stops at 17th and Chestnut. That's a bit closer, and if all else fails, I guess I'll end up carrying my daughter. No big deal. I've done it before. I'll also program those taxi numbers into my phone as a backup.

According to RTD's website 5 bus lines stop at 21st & wewatta. You should be able to transfer to one at Market St station Call them at 303-299-6000 to find out which route meets your time schedule.

The RTD website doesn't list it, but I'm pretty sure that the BV stops by Amtrak. If you're taking that bus, definitely ask the driver if it stops there. If my (admittedly somewhat faulty) memory is correct, you may not have to walk too far.

You could call a taxi easily. The last time I took my aunt and uncle to the Amtrak station, the cabs started lining up at the station right around the time the train arrived to take people to their hotels. I bet a taxi would be willing to get a fare to go to the station so he could wait for the passengers.

The #6 bus also goes down 15th then turns north heading straight up to 21st and Chestnut (next to Wewatta)

* edit to add - just saw you're coming from the north. Yes - just exit 20th and Chestnut and you'll be there.

I took this to the (temp.) Amtrak station easy from my house downtown last fall. But - if you have a few people and bags I would just grab a cab. They will be plenty available on a Saturday morning, and fare won't be more than $7-$10 tops with tip if that. (Bus fare is $2.25 each)

Also check ahead to see if your train is on time before heading over. If it's delayed it's much more pleasant to relax in a coffee shop or grab breakfast downtown than that station, which doesn't have any amenities.

Oh and stake out a seat on the dome car. I did this route for the first time last fall and didn't even bother to sit it my actual seat - spent the whole five hours in the observation car reading and watching the scenery.

Does anyone know how long the bus stops outside Union Station will be out of commission? We are hoping to take the train next Spring but will be coming down from Longmont. Would it be better to come down the night before?
