I'm going to be looking for a new apartment in Denver soon and thought I'd see if anyone had any suggestions. My top priorities are price (as low as anything that may be available) and location near a light rail station if possible. thanks

Default Go West Young Man, Go West

Look along the yet to be opened West Line.
In theory, it will be operational in April 2013.

Good luck, having light rail nearby generally adds probably a 25% price premium to apartments compared to living just a mile down the road. Maybe once the line along the 225 gets going in 3 or 4 years you'll get a cheaper place. My guess for best shots at a decent price would be near the Alameda or Evans stations, although both seem to be mostly houses nearby. Englewood has some cheaper places if you go about 3/4 mile away, but the places close to the station are not cheap.

You will most likely not find anything cheap around the light rail. The cheapest you'll likely find in Denver Metro is $600/month for a crappy studio/1BR in North Aurora along Colfax.

Check CL for any room shares within a house or apartment.

What do you consider "close"?

Having been looking lately I'll double down on this and say even a mile away won't get you much better. Places within almost two miles love to tout the "close to light rail!" pitch. Somehow that seems as dishonest as suggesting that a grocery store two miles away is "close."

That said, our busses are pretty good here and in some places can get you downtown a bit faster than light rail at the right time of day (from the right spot, of course.)

Check out the apartments at Union and 6th Ave. near the upcoming West lightrail line. I've seen some for less than $800 a month in great condition, I couldn't believe it myself!
