We'll be moving into our new home in late July and have received an insurance quote from ASI (American Strategic Insurance). I am wondering if anyone has had experience with this company or recommendations for local a (Denver) insurance company. ASI apparently has an affiliation with Oakwood Homes, our builder and the quote seems to be pretty reasonable. Any insight or advice would be appreciated.

Call other companies and get quotes - compare apples to apples. A low first year policy may mean rate increases every year.

We use Amica. Call their 800 number. I found their rates to be quite competitive & some time ago, Consumer Reports had rated them highly.

Just go with an independent broker they are most objective IMO. I have Traveler's give them a B.

Amica is great and their rates are crazy high they are atleast twice the price of any else except USAA.

Check out this very useful site, although every policy will vary somewhat. State Farm often has among the lowest rates on homes, but can be quite hard to qualify for these rates if your credit isn't good. Also keep in mind if you have any claims in the last 3 years or even 5 years many companies will not write a new policy for you. Also some of these companies are hard to get policies with, they are usually accessed through independent brokers and brokers usually only choose a couple to affiliate with. There is an auto rate comparison as well on the DORA site.

AMICA is supposed to be the best customer service, though you may pay more

USAA is an option with military service

I don't think "local" is something I would want for insurance, I want big. . .and not having the potential to go bankrupt if a fire wipes out Denver

I had USAA a long time, but their bundled policy was twice as much as Traveler's and the same for Amica. I give Trav a B because we had 18k worth of hail damage last June and they were a little slow to respond and had to haggle about some items.

I worked for a year with the Amica agents and they are the nicest people, that was many years ago. I always shop them and they are 2x $$$.
