I'm looking to buy a house in a close in suburb to Denver, with a budget of $350K or so. I'm not a fan of cookie-cutter houses, so something with a bit of personality appeals to me. Walkability would be cool too, as would easy access to bike trails. Does what I'm looking for, in my price range, exist? If so, I'd really appreciate pointers to specific neighborhoods.

I saw these in Stapleton's Conservatory Green and thought they were cool:

Expressions Series | New Homes in Stapleton | Denver Builder

They were also built in Stapleton south of 270, so you may find a resale or two as well.

Wheat Ridge has many mid century modern homes and some are still fairly affordable.

Mid-century modern homes are quite popular these days, so they can be quite pricey. However, there are quite a few different neighborhoods to choose from if you are open to different possibilities.

Krisana Park has some of nicest mid-century modern style homes in Denver, located in Virginia Village. Prices for a remodeled home seem to run $500K and above, but every once in a while, you can find a fixer for less than $350K.

Arapahoe Acres in Englewood. Very similar to Krisana Park.

There is a block of mid-century modern homes on Ivy St, between 13th and 12th in Mayfair.

Harvey Park in SW Denver has a number of very affordable homes originally designed by Cliff May, who is considered the father of the "California Contemporary Ranch." Here is one featured in Apartment Therapy - Graeme & Megan's Cliff May Home in Harvey Park House Tour | Apartment Therapy.

I've also seen a number scattered throughout the inner-ring suburbs of Littleton, Wheat Ridge, and Arvada. Good luck house hunting!

I'm self employed, so commuting isn't an issue. I'll probably be flying out of DIA once a month, and having meetings in Boulder on a similar schedule.

Wheat Ridge and Arvada sound like promising locations, especially as they'll give me good access to 70 and the mountains. I love MTBing and snow boarding. Any neighborhoods to concentrate on, or avoid, in those towns? I'm assuming they're low crime.

There have been some good suggestions on this thread. I want to add that Historic Denver has a link for this issue
Historic Denver | Programs | Post-War Patternbook

Arvada has many of these homes and has had discussons:
Mid Century Modern ARVADA Workshop Allendale - Alta Vista | Modern Colorado Homes

I want to throw this out for discussion. I see many of these types of homes that have a lower roof line with minimal attic space. They may have been stylish in the past but are these types of homes good for today's world with concern for energy efficient?

Most heat loss is through the roof. There is no room to add insulation and there is no dead airspace possible between insulation and the roof. These homes lack sufficient insulation, as built, to modern codes. It is impossible to improve on the roof insulation unless the roof in raised. In driving around these homes, in the area of Wheat Ridge and Arvada, I have seen some homes do just that-raise the roof. However, then the style is gone. Should government give incentives to homeowners to preserve this homes which work against the need of energy efficiency, just to preserve a style of the past? Do you really want to live in a house that will cost you more to heat and cool?
