Occasionally military jets will do touch and gos at Centennial but it is rare. When they do you definitely hear it. It shakes our buildings.

Richmond has a development under construction on Peoria just North of Lincoln. I am sure they are getting all kinds of questions about airport noise.

There is an "Airport Influence" disclosure that goes along with purchase contracts nearby.

The noise level really depends on where you are. The planes generally take off and land in specific directions, unless the wind is an issue.

We used to live just northwest of the airport at Arapahoe Road and Havana Street, and the noise WAS a problem. More with the little two-or-four seaters than the big jets. All weekend long they would be doing touch and goes around and around, and some of them were VERY loud. If we were sitting outside on the patio we had to stop our conversations until they were gone. There were fewer big jets, but sometimes I would hear one taking off at two in the morning.

Thank you all for the info. Now I'm torn. I just got this email from the Noise & Planning Specialist at Centennial I think you'll find interesting:

"Thank you for contacting me about moving close to the airport. I will have to be honest with you and state that the location you are looking to move to (Peoria Place) will be inundated with aircraft noise. We as the Airport Authority strongly opposed this development when it was under review with the County and was still approved. Centennial Airport is in the top 30 busiest airports in the Country and is open 24 hours a day, and certain days will be in the top 5. The location you are looking at is almost directly under our main runway. There will be nothing the airport can do to help the problem in this location as this is a new development next to an airport with already pretty significant noise problems in other areas."

Have the models opened yet? I would definitely spend some time during the day in their models to listen to the noise. I've owned a Richmond across from the Wildlife Experience for the past 9 years (want to buy it?....) and it is almost directly under their landing approach. I would say usually 2-3 houses down from mine is more directly underneath the path. It is a very busy airport BUT it never really bothered us. You occasionally get some bigger jets but nothing like commercial airliners so the noise is not nearly as bad. We did see some military jets maybe once or twice. We actually kind of enjoyed watching them come in. I say enjoyed because I've been renting the house out for the past 2 years and we've never had any complaints from our tenants either. That being said, the new Richmond development is considerably closer to the runway and the planes will be much lower and louder. Not to freak you out but I was kind of surprised to hear with all the open land in the area that they decided to put a neighborhood on that side of Peoria/location. Several years ago a cargo plane crashed in a field very close to the airport and right by a office building. We also had a smaller plane crash just south east of our neighborhood, actually if you search there have been a lot of small crashes on/near Centennial. Not saying it to deter you but might be something else to think about.

Finally found the right crash, kind of crazy how many have happened around the area. I was pretty sure a cargo plane had crashed just across the street from where they are putting these homes in.
Plane crash kills three | Colorado Community Media

"The MU-2 cargo plane smashed into the First Data Corp. parking lot near South Peoria Street and Mount Belford Avenue after missing the building by about 150 yards."

There was a crash on the on ramp from Peoria to E470 going West a few years back. It was a pontoon plane and nobody was hurt. You could see it from our building.

The models of the homes are not done yet but they are close. It is a good idea to spend some time over there to see how the noise is. Actually go sit outside at Parry's Pizza and enjoy a slice while watching the planes come in. That will give you a good idea of the noise in that area.

hey folks, random question from a local of that area.

is this the development that's going up behind the aparments at Lincoln and Peoria? Not far from the fire station at the corner of Lincoln, across from the Wells Fargo?

That was my assumption. I drive by it every day on the way home from work. There are apartments right next to it and a strip mall with Parry's Pizza and a Wells Fargo.

Wow, I didn't even consider the possibility of crashes! Thanks for the info! Yes, the subdivision is right next to the apartments and across the street from some town homes.

I actually drove out there today and a plane was flying very low over the subdivision across the street from the Wildlife Experience, but it did not fly over Peoria Place. I sat in Peoria Place's parking lot for about 15 mins., but then realized it's probably one of the windiest days today so many planes may not have been flying. Anyway, I didn't see any planes during this time.

I am wondering if the really would fly over Peoria Place as the end of the runway is west of the subdivision. I wonder how the people in the apartments and town homes feel about this too. I doubt that many people would have moved into the town homes if this were truly an issue.

BUT, the crashes bring up a whole new issue!

Thanks again!
