I live in northern Thornton. I am from the east coast, so things here are kinda different to me. I am sure I can find people I will get along with when I go to college this spring, but it's a little boring going to work, martial arts, and back home.

No offense, but honestly I only notice two types of people in the areas I frequent, and those areas are Thornton, commerce City, and metro Denver occasionally.

Basically, I see a lot of crazy looking drug addicts/alcoholics around the commerce City area and Denver. I don't want to be friends with these people for obvious reasons.

Then there are Christians. Like, die hard Christians. I have trouble getting along because I'm not Christian (I am eclectic.) The lifestyle that comes with the Christian faith isn't really for me.

I am looking to hang with young people, like 21, no drug addictions, but laid back and willing to have fun. I've been having trouble meeting people like that

How about joining a meet-up group that does activities that you enjoy? I am also from the east coast but live in the west US now and activities that focus around things you enjoy make it easy to meet others.

I'm with the above poster. Do an activity you enjoy. Maybe some friends will come from that.

It's tough.

Then the meet up forums would probably be a good way to go. What are you into, exactly? Are you employed? If so, how do you get along with your coworkers?
Honestly, not being a very outgoing person, I don't have much luck finding people "like me", either, and typically end up going more for people who I can get along with and maybe we have one or two things in common. Might have to make due with that course of action for a bit.

I work at a labor office currently. These people are mostly addicts, so I don't want to hang around them too much. I'm afraid they'll drag me down.

I am a gamer, but I enjoy outdoor activities. I am far from the mountains though, so hiking is pretty difficult. And while I prefer to avoid addicts, I enjoy partying and having fun. I drink sometimes and smoke a little weed occasionally.

I guess I might try befriending Christians after all, but hope they don't push their beliefs and way of life on me. Most Christians back in Georgia were chill and like me.

I'm wary of preachy religious sorts... had a lot of fanatical ones in my hometown in Mississippi... Bibles in one hand, porno videos in the other.. hypocritical as could be, yet could never see it themselves.
Never was much of a gamer, so don't really know where the "hubs" for that would be, save for one I stumbled onto by accident when I lived in Colorado Springs. And they knew right away I didn't belong.
I'd be wary about using Craigslist... I always seemed to run into the weird ones there. Roommate of mine figured she'd put an ad on CL when we kinda ended up taking in a cat which gave birth right at our doorstep... won't be doing that again. "Teehee.. I'm... hehe... calling about... hehehehehe... the kittens.... hehehe...". Suffice to say, that wasn't happening.
Had my fling with drugs... gave it up when I enlisted in the Army... used to lace up some Skoal with meth when I worked the oilfields in Louisiana after the Army, but that ended when the Guard activated me for the big sandbox.
When I was a teenager, one of our favorite things to do was get hopped up on PCP, go for a ride in a pickup, and try shooting out street lights. Not a very high hit rate (kinda hard to when everything's just streaks of light), but when you did hit one, it was something truly spectacular.
Surviving war was nothing.. how the hell did I ever survive myself? Especially since all my friends from back then are all dead now.

Join the Army. Not kidding.

You WILL meet tons of young, serious men and women as opposed to the dregs.

The Army can not only teach you many trades but you can also use the G.I. Bill to pay for your college.

For sure you'll be out of your parent's basement, on your own, and you will love it.

Try posing an inquiry in our Military forum asking those folks for advice on ROTC, and service in general.
