Wow!

Jeffco voters choose recall; incumbents losing in DougCo school race - The Denver Post

Jeffco and Dougco throwing out the conservative school boards.

Airport city is a go.

Denver and Colorado both voting to let the city and state keep the marijuana tax surpluses.

All in all this liberal is happy.

Not happy about spending $1 billion on cows and sheep.

Happy about Wheat Ridge 300. Death to large TIFs.

I really, really hate the fact that they bundled this nonsense project with other proposals which definitely should be approved.

Not surprised but not too thrilled about the Denver school board vote.

DougCo is not quite there yet. They replaced 3 out of 7 seats but it is a great start. The vote wasn't even close. Hopefully the superintendent will resign or get the boot.

I don't mind the stock show proposal. At least Denver's coming to the plate with money to revitalize the grounds...unlike Pueblo. They give a pittance to the state fair and then kick and scream like a bratty toddler when legislators threaten to move it because it's losing money.

The JeffCo Superintendent's status will be interesting to watch. McMinimee came in under clearly controversial circumstances. And I can't really says how he has performed, but I can say that the board members who got booted out didn't even listen to most of his (or his staff's) recommendations.

That was one of my reasons for voting to get rid of WNW - they wouldn't even listen to their own hand picked guy half the time. Which made me wonder who they were listening to because it wasn't most parents, teachers, or staff.

I would hope the new board doesn't immediately get rid of McMinimee as I don't believe rapid change and ANOTHER search would really be good for the district. If he isn't capable and isn't working out, then yeah - move him out. But, doing it in the first month wouldn't be prudent - nor look good to be honest.

What didn't you like? I only had one person to vote for on the DPS school board. I didn't see a huge difference in the two.

The stock show is so detached from the rest of Denver's activities and image that I think they should abandon it altogether. Texas and Idaho would be more appropriate states to host the national stock show.

I am not a fan of the "Reform" policy. That is the big difference between each pair of candidates - those who support the current plan to essentially privatize DPS by promoting charter schools over strong neighborhood schools. My son attends a charter school and I think they can be an important piece of the puzzle, but they shouldn't be a substitute for good neighborhood schools, they should be an adjunct to them.
