Knowing I'm already setting myself up to fail (and have a miserable commute) I'd love some help finding a fun/safe area to live!

I'm a single woman in my late 20s relocating with my horse for a new job. Currently in Kentucky, but was in NYC prior so I'm perfectly happy with (and would prefer) city living. Horse will be just outside Boulder and the new job is in Centennial. I'm already prepared for the work/barn commute, but I'd really love to live somewhere that's walkable to restaurants/bars.

Not picky when it comes to apartments (I'm happy with a 400sqft studio) but would like to stay below $1750/month in rent. If there's something a little further out but close to light rail I'd be totally happy with that as well.

Am I being completely unrealistic? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Do you want to live in Boulder or willing to consider other options?

I worked in Broomfield and lived in Speer which is about 10-15 minutes from DTC. Average commute time was about 35 minutes, so IMHO not that bad at all. It was mostly highway driving and only a few areas of bottleneck traffic mostly around the I-25 interchange going home.

You might want to consider living near an RTD station as I believe light rails go into DTC. If you were to do that, then Downtown would be an option. Littleton is also close to DTC.

Is there any reason your horse can't be boarded in Parker, Foxfield, or somewhere in Western Elbert County? That would be a much more doable commute than splitting the difference between Boulder and the Tech Center.

This.

There are much more convenient horsey locations than Boulder if job is in DTC.

What about Golden? Or eastern part of Lakewood? Or Wheat Ridge?

Besides the job, the Boulder barn was what really sold me on the move (I have friends that are already there and riding with the trainer). So unfortunately, while the most inconvenient it's definitely the one thing I have to work around :/

That being said, realistically I don't expect to make it out there more than once or twice during the work week. So if it's easier to cut the commute to DTC and still have a ~45 minute drive to Boulder a few days a week I'm definitely okay with that.

I’d look close to work. If you are going to be driving to Boulder regularly, you don’t want a long commute to work as well.
There are lots of rentals in that general area.

If living in the Tech Center itself doesn’t appeal, I’d at least try to stay either north or south of the DTC rather than going (out) east or west as that will give you easier access to I-25/225.
I’d look south to around County Line and north to Hampden Ave. along that I-25 axis.
