Just trying to get a general opinion of where you would choose to live if you and your husbands jobs were in the following locations and this was your criteria.

Husband - Broomfield
Wife - University Park/North University Hills area

The husband would likely take the brunt of the commute since we do have a little one, who will need to attend preschool somewhere and I will be the one who drops off and picks up on top of traveling to/from work.

We will be renting for little while before we decide where we ultimately would like to live. Would be willing to pay around $2500-$3k for rent for a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment or townhome. We would like a family friendly area, and possibly be able to walk or bike to nice parks or greenspace with our dog. Close to decent restaurants (non-commercialized), maybe a good brewery or wine bar and a coffee shop.

It seems being on the West Side might make the most sense in areas around Sloan’s Lake, Wheat Ridge, and Arvada but ultimately I don’t know and why I am asking,

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!

Center yourself around Highland Square.

University Hills is a tough area to get to/from - at rush hour you're battling a clogged I-25 or clogged main streets. If that's where you'll work, it makes sense to live as close as possible to University Hills.

An alternative is to live on the west side (or such cool family friendly neighborhoods such as Edgewater and Berkely) easier on your husband's commute - and pick a daycare near where you work. That way you're always close to the daycare, and battle traffic together, with the little one in the back seat. Which beats battling traffic with the little one in a distant daycare that's about to close

I agree that the west side is pretty ideal. Alternatively, you could consider Park Hill, Mayfair, or Congress Park. Probably about the same commute time for the husband to Broomfield (depending on where in Broomfield) and allows for you to avoid the traffic jams up and down I-25 during rush hour. Great parks and green space and some very good restaurant options.
