Hey everyone!
I live here (Arvada) and am looking for new ideas for a special "anniversary evening" celebration. We're getting a sitter overnight to stay with the kids. So I'm looking for somewhere that has upscale accommodations, maybe live music nearby, if the weather is nice maybe somewhere we can get out and walk. I'm considering Boulder (staying near the Pearl Street Mall) and of course downtown. But it seems like when we end up downtown we never know what to do with ourselves (end up at ESPN Zone - I don't want to do that on my anniversary!). I'm really looking for good live music, checked Westword but don't see anything. Anyway, if anyone has a special place (like maybe Evergreen, Cherry Creek, etc.) - anywhere, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you :c) Suzette |

When is your anniversary? We always get stuck on it too as there just isn't much outside the city unless you are outdoorsy. This year, we decided to drive to Manitou Springs, just outside of Colo. Springs. We got a jacuzzi suite in a modest hotel and will probably spend half the day rafting and then the rest of the day shopping, and hanging out. I looked at other towns like Steamboat and Aspen, which looked pretty cool and offered similar things as Manitou, it's just that Manitou costed a lot less. Hope this gives you some ideas.

This is a tough one for us, too. We considered the Magnolia Hotel in downtown Denver based on a friend's recommendation, but ultimately booked a cabin in Glenwood Springs. We've never been there and it seems like a great place to get away from it all. If we were to stay in Boulder, we would probably opt for the Hotel Jerome because of the spa and its proximity to Pearl Street.

OK, I posted almost this exact blog and totally got beaten down by the fellow people because they said "this is not the right blog forum". Anyways, we ended up taking a lunch train ride throught the royal gorge. It was fun

Good call on the Magnolia. We got a free room there and stayed one night for a past anniversary. Staff is kind of rude, rooms are very small, we had a view of a brick wall. Sooo not worth the money. On the flip side, we stayed in Glenwood last year for our anniversary and I really liked it! It's a small town, but lots of areas to walk around and good restaurants. We did the gondola thing, not the most impressive but different. We didn't bother with the hotsprings as when we walked by it was packed with screaming kids.
One thing we did which we still talk about: Movies at the River. If you are going sometime soon, or this summer, you must check this out. I don't have any links for you, but I do remember finding out about it thru the web somehow. We packed a picnic blanket and some wine. It was a ball. We watched the Goonies. It was so nice, sitting by the river, watching the stars and the Goonies. The train went by once and it was no big deal noise wise. Have a great anniversary!! Quote:

That sounds fun. Was it the Louisville one? I heard they have a train down there. We thought about staying in their old hotel, you know, the one Doc Holliday used to hang out at?

Thanks for the info about Glenwood Springs. We are heading there in two weeks and we will definitely check out Movies at the River!
![]() Oops! I just noticed I put "Hotel Jerome" in my previous post. Yeah, that's in Aspen not Boulder. I meant to say the St. Julien but it's a moot point now. ![]() |

Thank you all for your feedback and ideas. We ended up staying downtown, but did something different than we've done in the past - we got a room at the Brown Palace. We'd never been there, so it was great to go and experience that. Went to Vesta, which I would definitely recommend. I love all the ideas though, will keep them for the future!! Thanks again :c)

Boulder: It's usually on a certain day, so you might want to call the Chamber ahead of time so you can plan on it. There's a weird route to it too, we thought we'd get lost. But then we saw a bunch of teens migrating in a certain angle, so we just followed them and whala! We were there. Have fun!!!
