You don't need AC in Denver, you don't need AC in Evergreen.

You don't need AC in Phoenix either. You don't need a parachute when you jump out of an airplane.

It's just sort of a good idea.

If you're trying to imply that Denver = Evergreen,

you = out of your gourd.

Blue: hot is hot. It does cool off at night, but when you're acclimated to 20° mornings, then nights and mornings in the high 50s and low 60s seems pretty darn warm... like short and t-shirt weather.

If you're coming from Dallas on August 5th to Denver, who cares what you think? People that live here and acclimated to Colorado think 98° is hot. Your home can easily get up to the mid to high 70s and then you're gonna be hot and miserable.

If it's a money issue, don't get AC. I personally like the luxury of it.

Steveindenver: Comparing Denver to Phoenix seems no stanger than comparing Denver to Evergreen. Evergreen, as I said way back in an earlier post is about 75° when Denver is 102°. Get it?

Now you're making an apples-to-oranges comparison. Phoenix may be arid but the temperature is routinely 15-20 degrees hotter than Denver.

I personally don't think A/C is necessary in Denver or anywhere in Colorado for that matter because it cools down at night. Keep some windows open and get a nice cross-draft going and the house will drop into the low 60s by morning.

A house or apartment without A/C here in Dallas is called a sauna. During the dead of summer the daytime temps push into the low 100s and the overnight temps don't get out of the 80s. THAT's what A/C is for (that and padding the electric company's pocket).

No I am saying that you don't need AC in either place. We lived without it for years and I know people who still don't have AC and have no intentions of getting it. If you can live without AC in Denver you can certainly go without it in Evergreen.

I'm not sure why you would compare Phoenix to Denver, might as well throw in Anchorage AK so long as we are just randomly throwing out cities.

Evaporative coolers (also called swamp, desert, or air coolers) are devices that cool air through the simple evaporation of water. They differ from refrigeration or absorption air conditioning, which use vapor-compression or absorption refrigeration cycles. In the United States, evaporative coolers are often called swamp coolers (possibly due to the odor of algae produced by early units).

I do not like swamp coolers, but that's just my personal preference.

As far as needing a/c in Denver, that's a personal preference. I happen to live in Colorado and do not like to go to sleep when its hot then wake up and have it cold and using a/c keeps the house at a more uniform temperature day and night. Could people live without one, sure they did for centurys till we invited one just a few decades ago. Then again there are a lot of modern conveniences I could live without but choose not to and the a/c happens to be one of them.

The temperature change is not that drastic. If its 105 in denver there is no way it is 75 in evergreen. I grew up in evergreen and there was several times during the summers that it would easily get into the 90s up there. It would cool down at night but not a huge amount. Upper bear creek might be a different story since that area is always shady and is dense forest.

Coincidentally, I am working with a potential buyer asking the same question of Evergreen. What I advised them, and as you've seen from other posts, having A/C in Evergreen is a waste of money to install or operate. We are generally 10-15 degrees cooler than the Denver Metro area. Depending on the position of the home, ie; living space West facing to absorb the afternoon heat, you will often feel comfortable with some windows open. I came from the Bay Area in California where it hits 100 and this is heaven to me.
Hope that helps.

Any advice much appreciated.

Well if you're gonna live in Evergreen, why WOULDN'T you live on Upper Bear? You want to live on I-70 and call that Evergreen, have at it.
