Hi, I have had to cancel my plans to ride the Amtrak between Denver and Salt Lake City because they have rerouted the train away from the Rockies route. The scenary was the entire reason for my travelling to Denver to catch the train! It was also much of the reason for my wife visiting the USA for the first time!
Does anyone have suggestions for ways for us to travel between Denver and Salt Lake City and still take in the scenic Rockies?

I haven't seen any information about re-routing the Amtrak trains -- where did you find this? I'm only asking because I'm curious to know. The maps on the Amtrak website still reflect the same route as usual.

To go from Den to SLC you have to go through the whole Rockies from East to West. If you drive or take a bus: either way, you'll be hitting the Rockies.

The only way Amtrak could reroute the train to avoid the Rockies would be to go via Wyoming or New Mexico and according to this website (Amtrak - Routes - West) that hasn't happened.

Actually, the OP is correct. I just heard from Amtrak they have rerouted the train whilst doing track work.

I've heard it's an amazing trip. I had friends come to visit from San Francisco and they had a great time on the train. The only downside was that the train was running 12 hours (!) behind schedule, so I had to pick them up at Union Station at 4:30AM!

I-80 through Wyoming has some scenery to be sure, but it is no comparison to going through the Colorado mountains-- whether that's by road or train. Bummer.

People need to check with Amtrak before assuming the Zephyr is rerouted--the current schedule is to reroute it through Wyoming about every other week through sometime in September or October. Otherwise, it will be running on the Colorado route. The reroute is necessary to due extensive track maintenance being done in Gore Canyon west of Kremmling--work that can only be done in the summer.
