The new hipster cities of America: Who's emerging as the "next Austin"? - 2012-Feb-21 - CultureMap Austin

I know I know, you are probably sick of hearing all the stupid comparisons of Detroit with other cities from the media over and over again. But, I thought this is worth sharing.

Maybe Downtown, Midtown, Corktown and a few other limited areas, but certainly not the other 95% of the city. Although...I'd much rather see Detroit become a "hipster" town (although I really don't know what that means ) than for it to remain a ghetto (or whatever it in fact is ).

Be careful what you wish for.

To see what I mean, go check out the corner of Divisidero and Bush here in SF. It used to be the hood! And now?

So entrepreneurs "love it" in downtown Detroit, and are enthusiastic about the city and its possibilities, much to the dismay of the trolls.
Plenty of colleges in the area - WMU, UM, State, UD, Wayne, many smaller specialized ones could start thinking about meeting the needs of the region. Schools similar to Henry Ford CC could train the locals for any grunt jobs that don't need a degree. All they would need is teachers and space - could even be storefronts.
Just a thought.
