Hmmmm...

kercheval & mcclellan, detroit - Google Maps

The building looks similar, but doesn't quite match up. Although the building in the old photo could have been on the corner that is now vacant. (?)

Yea it looks to be the vacant lot with the photo facing east down Kercheval.

However...this intersection seems familiar...Though, it probably just because that area is prevalent with that sort of particular style of architecture (I can't name it off the top of my head).

Yeah, I think you're right. The buildings looked so close, I was assuming they were the same, but it would not have been uncommon to have two adjacent buildings with similar architecture.

The DTE aerials from 1961 do seem to match up with the old photo.

And, yes, that architecture is very prevalent. 1910-1930 I would guess.

Judging from some of the cars in the picture, I'd guess that this photograph is more likely to have been taken in the early-to-mid '70s.

The person I got the pic from said McClellan and Kercheval. I believe it is looking east towards the empty lot. The power lines match up when looking that way. The building on the left looks a little smaller in the picture than on street view. Looking at the cars it definitely isn't 50's.

Virtually all of the buildings in that photo are gone (looking east down Kercheval).

Yeah, hard to believe it is the same place! Kind of "post-apocalyptic".

It's the same thing across majority of Detroit too...

People who weren't alive at the time would probably find it hard to believe many neighborhoods within Detroit were once their own little Royal Oak or Birmingham.
