I have an aunt who lives in a cul-de-sac there I know Westland is an uprising community. I'm mostly familiar with the Newburgh area, Cherry Hill and South John Hix by the freeway and I like the Westland Mall.

I would stay north of Cherry Hill. The best part of Westland is north of Warren Road, west of Merriman. You can get into Livonia schools if you live west of Farmington north of Warren. The benefit is that you can get a great house, great area, great schools, and not pay Livonia's taxes. Avoid south of Palmer like the plague. Anything along Avondale is also bad; the houses are decent, but it's kind of like druggie avenue. Not like coked out fiends or nothing, just mostly weed.

I don't know if I'd want to live somewhere where they have a lot of uprisings.

LOL!

The John Glen HS isn't exactly the best.. thats the reason we moved out of Westland. It doesn't seem like you or somebody in your family is in High School though so that might not matter. Westland really isnt that bad, but your money would be better spent in Plymouth or even Canton.

On an unrelated note: Anybody know how my old house looks? Its on Farmington. South of Warren and North of Ford. Just a couple houses south of Yorkdale Court. It was a split level and the people remodeled it all (was white now beigeish) I heard it went into forclosure? is that true? I believe the address is 6818 N. Farmington or something

Umm, no that can't be right. If you mean south of Joy Road, North of Hines Drive and west of Farmington then that's right. North of Warren Road, west (and east) of Farmington road, in the area around Cowan road, has always been part of the Wayne-Westlnd School District. At least it was up until the late 1990's when I left the area. The dividing line for the schools is Hines Drive. Live north of that and you go to Livonia schools, south, go to Wayne-Westland.

Looking at property north of Palmer & west of Merriman, is that a reasonable area?

What do you mean, reasonable, in terms of safety or money?

I'm not that familiar with it in particular, although I am fairly familiar with Westland in general. I guess it depends on what your expectations are.

Westland had 1 murder last year, so the odds of any serious violent crime, particularly if you live a noncriminal lifestyle, are extraordinarily low.

It borders Inkster, though, and Inkster is not a particularly good area.

However, in the grand scheme of things, I suppose I would define a "dangerous" area as an area where you can be a normal person going about your business and still have to feel like you might expect some kind of harassment or danger. Again, I haven't been around there in a very long time, so I am not a great source, but Westland in general could hardly be considered dangerous. And while Inkster is a little dicier I would imagine if you are just a law abiding person you could have a reasonable expectation of safety.

I would do some research and ask neighbors about potential B&Es, car vandalism, things like that.

But compared to, for instance, a a bad area of a big city, it would seem the answer is no, not dangerous.
