Plenty of negatives about artificial sweeteners.

The only way to tell for sure is to test with a meter.

I use pure stevia, it doesn't affect my BG whatsoever. It is a natural sweetener although it does take some processing to produce it.

One thing though, even though your blood sugar may remain unchanged, there may be an insulin response. That is more difficult if not impossible to test for. At least not the way we test BG.

This may help.

I don't know the answer, but I do know this: Whenever I drink a diet soda, I get hunger cravings afterwards. This would suggest that even artificial sweeteners can have an effect on blood sugar. Maybe the pancreas, which controls insulin levels, can't tell the difference between real and fake sugar?

No no and no.But you could look at all the other carbs she may be consuming. With impaired liver function her liver may not be taking up glucose as it should. But who cares? Let her eat what she wants at this point. It should be her choice.

This video explains how your body responds to different artificial sweeteners.

I saw it a while ago, as I recall, some raise blood sugar, others contribute to you storing fat. A few don't do much of anything.

I know that I hate sucralose and acesulfame potassium with a passion. I feel off and get left with a "headache", or at least I don't feel good.

Me too. I never eat 'diet' stuff, ever.

Check this out

Like most sugar substitutes, Splenda is a synthetic chemical. It was discovered in 1976 by British scientists who were actually seeking to formulate a new pesticide.

They were doing organochloride tricks trying to kill bugs.
