I never used to crave desserts or candy at all before I started taking insulin for T2 in my forties. Does craving for sweets mean my body is asking for more fuel because not enough "sugar" is getting to my cells?

Amazon, and most better stores sell a variety of sugar-free candy, even popular brands like York Peppermint Patties, Hershey Dark Chocolate and Reeses Peanut Butter cups. When I see them I buy a bag, but limit myself to 1-2 a day. Then I'll go a week or two without. It seems to help the craving, though it's a struggle around Halloween, especially after with all of the leftover candy that I can't have.
I never craved sugar until I got diabetes and this was before medication. I could never get enough sugary foods in me. Now I still crave the sweets but not as much as before.
Maybe the issue is getting used to a different menu? i have cravings for milk chocolate, pastries and ice cream. dark chocolate is so bitter, it doesn't help. Also, sugar free stuff often has artificial sweeteners which taste bitter. Actually, all food tastes wrong to me right now because of cancer treatment. What works for me is eating the real stuff but in small quantities. Before diabetes I can't imagine having just one praline out of a box.
Probably because most hate being told what we can't have so we want it more.
I had never ate much candy or drank soda. Never even really ate much junk food and have always ate home cooked meals.
Since I got diagnosed with type II diabetes I crave all types of junk food especially candy bars, ice cream, pastries, pizza, pasta, and sodas. Luckily I only crave that stuff when shopping and seeing it. I fell into the horrible habit of buying one treat every time I went shopping. It is amazing how quickly that added up into eating way too much junk food. I still have the urge to buy something but have been doing good at not buying any treats for a few months now.
I don't know....every diabetic person I have ever known seems to have a huge craving for sweets. I have noticed that. Maybe it is the medicine. Maybe more research should be done.
I don't think about it. I just live by the numbers. And I have a CDG that painlessly tells me my blood sugar levels. Then I punch that number and the amount of carbs I'm taking into an insulin pump.
I just try to stay away from sweets that are really, really sweet--like Snickers. Also ice cream can kick you up 100 points.
Could it be that because the pancreas doesn't work properly that causes the sugar cravings? I don't know just wondering if that is possible.
When was younger I didn't crave sugar until I got older then got adult diabetes. Thats when I really started craving sweets but then I didn't know I was diabetic a that time when I craved sugar. I always thought I was craving sugar before I became diabetic but nope I was and didn't know.
