The little pittie boy we're fostering seems to pee constantly. And it's not just little tinkling like he's marking or like he has a UTI. When he pees it's buckets!! And it's every hour or so. He does make it through the night though. He's usually been good about getting our attention or holding it until we take him out, but the last few days he's getting worse. John just took him out an hour ago and he just peed a ton on the floor again!! John took him out and he peed like crazy again.
He also seems like he can't control it at times. He starts to pee while he's running and there's a trail all over the room he's in. And when we freak and jump up he seems shocked that he's peeing.
He does drink a lot of water so it's not like he's creating it out of nowhere. He's not dehydrated. I just don't know what in the world could be causing him to pee so much so often. Any ideas? The girl that runs the rescue is calling her vet so I won't know anything as far as a vet appointment until probably Monday.

I'd wondered about diabetes too, but being so young I immediately discounted that idea.
The urine is very clear. Maybe an ever so slight yellow.
I'm waiting to hear from the girl that runs the rescue on an appointment for him. That's the one down side to fostering instead of handling his vetting and adoption myself. I can't just run him in for work; I've got to wait and do it through her vet.
i would absolutly try to push to have him checked for diabetes as well as a full kidney liver and if possible spleen function tests...
because right now your pretty much at the mercy of the rescue, make sure he continues to drink, lots of potty breaks and make sure hes also getting electrolytes (chicken broth or pedialyte are both great. for every 3 cups of water give him about a cup of broth/pedalyte)
Thanks Foxy. The good news is before I offered to foster for her, I knew her on a rescue basis. She's really good and great about taking care of the dogs. She works for the vet that takes care of the dogs, so that makes things easier!
My friend has 2 dogs with diabetes. They both drink like camels at every opportunity and they both pee frequently and great volume of nearly clear urine.
