I'm just wondering if you only got a heartworm or rabies vaccine and are mistaking it for a lyme disease vaccine. Dogs are typically treated with a monthly topical you have to administer to ward off fleas and ticks - are you using anything like that? They also should be getting a monthly heartworm pill. Both are required regardless of vaccines.

Default lyme after vaccine

We have two Norwegian elk hounds that are just over one year old. They have all the shots including Lyme vaccination. Both dogs got Lyme disease despite the vaccination…

That vax is a little controversial because it's a live vaccine. And it won't do anything if they already had an exposure.

My lab/blue heeler mix was vaccinated for Lyme Disease. At six months old he held out his leg and started crying out in pain. We took him to the vet. He had a low grade fever and his joint by paw wad swollen. Two blood work tests later we were told he had Lyme disease. 30 days of antibiotics and pain meds. The company who supplied his vaccination paid for vet bills snd for meds. Shortly thereafter, now nine months old, we took him back in which vet gave him another thirty day supply of antibiotics and more pain meds. She now informed us it must be growing pains.
I am at my wits end. It's hard when you have a puppy who wants to play nonstop and crys out in pain as he runs around with his ball. Tonight I am up with him. The heating pad seems to help with his pain. The pain med does not seem to be working with his leg.
I am worried as to what to expect long term for him.
Any suggestions?

We had our puppy fully vaccinated and on Advantix and she got Lyme disease at 9 months old! She was symptomatic...started limping etc. I was very upset that I not only exposed her to all the vaccinations, but spent so much money on them and the monthly Advantix that didn't work. We now have a 4 month old puppy who needs a rabies shot (because we are adopting a baby all shots needs to be "up to date") but I really wanted to wait until 6 months old. I'm also worrying about the Lyme vaccine. Was my experience a fluke or should we still get it?!

Maybe the shots gave them the disease

I will never have another flu shot for example - so sick it made me.

"baby" Human or K9? Why would a Rabies Shot make a difference in Adoption? Some Breeds Cant have Rabies! I couldn't give my Pap a Rabies Shot till she was 9 months.

I've always had my dogs Lymes-vaccinated. I do it on the assumption that I'd rather have 75% protection than no protection at all; especially considering that my dog does run around occasionally in wooded areas. None of my dogs have ever had (knock-on-wood!) Lymes disease. (I also use Frontline Plus, which isn't 100% effective either)
