I have wood floors with area rugs. So much better than carpet that harbors all kinds of germs! The dogs don't have any problem on the floors, but it's been years since they were refinished, so not glossy like yours.

I imagine once they get more used and maybe scratched a bit, the dogs will gain more traction.

While this thread is about 4 years old, there are a few things I could add.
We use Runner carpets or area rugs. Another thing is to keep the dogs nails trimmed well. Not sure for the floor but also helps the paw to grip better verses sliding on the nails like being on ice-skates.

Also keeping the Hair trimmed around the pads help.

My Mals have no problem on the hardwood floor in the kitchen and dining room. However, I can hear them at night when the wonder into the kitchen for a drink, or travel over to the doorwall to lay down. Click click, click of their nails on the hard wood.

Rugs. I have hardwood floors and I have rugs all over them. Much more pleasant for dogs.

I personally think hardwood floors are overrated. They look nice but they're cold, loud, unwelcoming, and there are issues like this. I think hardwood floors make sense in bars and on basketball courts.

Not to mention the germs that are harbored in carpet. As well as the synthetics and chemicals they're made of.

So I have hardwoods in living areas/halls, ceramic tile in baths, and I have carpet in two of the three bedrooms. But I got special stain free carpet, and waddya know, it really IS stain free! (it's not nylon)
