OK Smart Dog Friends.... I have a question for you.... Had some work done on the AC yesterday and Brian discovered that mice had set up housekeeping in my exterior condenser.... They have done a number on the insulation in there.... I need a dog-friendly way to get rid of them.... Roxie has killed several mice and moles over these past months, but to my knowledge, she and the others don't eat them.... but still.... I am really reluctant to use poison, because, what if?? Suggestions please.... I can not afford to allow those little critters to destroy the condenser....
I get mice in my vehicles all of the time. I have Deer Mice everywhere here but the house. I bought a live trap, Havahart, at the local Ace hardware store several years ago and baited it with peanut butter. It works. I now have three live traps and catch them all of the time. They really like peanut butter. Be sure to get the small size for mice, however, not a larger size.
Don't use poison under any circumstances. It will get into the live mice who eat the dead ones and if your dogs are in contact with one of those you'll have a poisoned dog. Besides, it's not a good way to die, not even for a little mouse.

That's a good idea. I actually *do* know that peanut butter works. Don't ask me how I know {shiver}!

Why can't you just remove the mice from the condenser and patch up whatever hole they used to get in there in the first place? No fuss, no muss.
They have moved out for the summer.... I suspect they are coming in through the drain holes along the bottom.... If I seal those, I will have standing water in the condenser when it rains......

Fasten wire mesh over the holes.
Problem solved. Lets the water get out and keeps the critters out. Inspect it periodically to make sure nothing else is getting in. Or course that's easy to do when you have a terrier mix who is obsessed with finding critters.

and I have one of those, too!!
and was actually considering putting something like that in there....
what about those sticky pads you put down which holds the mice? We have used those successfully. good luck
No. Those are incredibly cruel. Humane live traps work fine.
Here in right wing Wyoming where 'most everybody packs a gun we can be humane. So can everybody else.
