It’s by a narrow margin, but New Jersey voters actually do support a proposed law that would require dog owners to put their animal in a safety restraint or crate when in the car.
According to today’s Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind poll, 45 percent of registered voters in the state support the law, with 40 percent opposing it.
i am 100% for this, though i think they should add back seat barriers, i dont personally like the barriers that keep them in back (because in an accident they can still be seriously stossd around where as being cliped to a seatbelt or in a secure crate woudl inimize the amount of bouce around room) but i do think they should be cosidered a "safety measure" for dogs who cannot be crated/seatbelted for whatever reason (ie try to find a doggy seatbelt that fits a great dane or english mastif crrectly...and youd need a mini van to fit that sized crate...
but im all for laws that prevent pets from becomming additional distractions and dangerous projectiles.
I'm very much in favor of it too, we used crates w/ our 4 small dogs and they quickly adapted (2 in each crate), in the past when we had 1 or 2 they were in seatbelts but the crates worked better for our situation, in fact we still use them now w/ our current dogs and they're absolutely fine w/ it as well, it really is a lot safer, i cant imagine having them loose.
